The attractive feature set—automatic mobile backup, search, albums, sharing, and multi-user libraries—should be evaluated alongside the unglamorous parts: backups of the backup, database recovery, storage growth, upgrades, remote access, and permissions. For production media, a friendly gallery is not a substitute for a tested recovery plan.
Before adopting Immich, test import/export behavior with your real library, confirm metadata preservation, review hardware acceleration needs, and rehearse a restore. Keep original files and database state covered by separate backups.
